For the past two years, my go-to breakfast has been cereal from Paws & Go, WashU's on-campus market. While I love Lucky Charms as much as the next person, I usually end up extremely hungry after a morning full of classes. I started searching for alternatives to cereal, and I realized that when it comes to breakfast options, Paws & Go has so much more to offer. There are plenty of healthy, filling options hidden in its aisles. After searching and trying all the breakfast items I could find, I've come to a conclusion: these are the 5 best breakfast items at Paws & Go.

RXBAR

RXBARs are as healthy and wholesome as they seem. As an added bonus, they taste delicious. Paws & Go sells flavors like chocolate and peanut butter. If you don't mind the date-like texture, these make for a great, filling breakfast (especially if you have extra meal points because they're among the more expensive breakfast items at Paws & Go).

Frozen Waffles

I still can't believe I hadn't previously known that Paws & Go sells waffles (in the frozen section, by the entrance). Now, I  intend to keep a box in my freezer at all times. The waffles at Paws & Go are homestyle organic Nature Valley waffles, and they're also vegan and gluten free. The instructions say to use a toaster oven, but I heated them up in the microwave with a damp paper towel and they still tasted (and smelled) delicious. I threw some nut butter and bananas on mine, which was extra satisfying and tasty. These will definitely be my go-to breakfast—and general snack—in the future. They're perfect if you love waffles (but, if you want something a bit more savory, I noticed that Paws & Go also sells an interesting waffle, egg, and sausage slider in the frozen food section).

Yogurt

I always forget to check the refrigerated section in the back, but Paws & Go offers an assortment of yogurts, so you can try them all and never get bored. You can also go with the self-serve yogurt by the salad bar, and try out flavors like chocolate or latte for breakfast. Both options are quick, easy, and delicious.

Eggs and Salad Bar Fixings

Allie Blank

I tend to think that dorm-room cooking is more difficult than apartment or off-campus cooking, but having a rotating set of freshly-chopped veggies and mix-ins always available makes preparing things like random egg dishes a lot easier. If you have a few extra minutes before class you can make (or microwave) an egg or two and throw in some pre-cut veggies and spinach from the salad bar. I made a frittata in the microwave with kale, onions, turkey, tomatoes, and cheese. It only took three minutes, and it made for a really yummy breakfast.

Kakookies

Kakookies are amazing. The almond cranberry flavor tastes like an oatmeal raisin cookie but also feels like an acceptable breakfast choice. These are tasty, portable, and should definitely be on your radar.

Paws & Go has so many excellent, underrated breakfast options that I never knew I needed. If you have a little bit more time, you could also just run to Schnucks or UP and get access to a world of potential breakfasts. If you prefer to make your own breakfasts, there are also tons of quick and healthy breakfast recipes you can make with just a few ingredients—some of which only require a microwave. Regardless of what you end up deciding to do and to eat, know that there are plenty of delicious breakfast options just a few feet from your dorm.
